Marci Payne, IFS therapist, MO, KS

Hello, I’m Marci Payne (she/her), IFS-trained therapist, and licensed counselor in MO & KS:

I have over 25 years of experience in counseling and therapy, helping people navigate the most challenging life and relationship transitions. I have tried a lot of modalities, but IFS therapy is the only one I’ve found that truly helps people feel at home inside of themselves.

I especially enjoy helping people heal from people-pleasing, emotional abuse, and perfectionism. If you're tired of putting your needs last, feeling like you aren’t enough, or not having a voice in your relationships, I’d love to have a conversation with you.

How Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy Works for Personal Growth and Healing:

We do more than talk about problems. We get curious about the “parts” of you involved in the problem.

It’s normal to have different parts, like a part of you that wants to set a boundary, and another part of you that is terrified of conflict.

Together, we identify the different parts of you in your internal family, starting with the parts that want to protect you.

I guide you to access your core “Self”, the compassionate, calm, and confident resource that is inside all of us.

Together, we don’t try to get rid of your parts; we get to know their roles, motivations, and fears.

Along the way, we meet “parts” that are carrying burdens from the past, such as feelings of not being enough, rejection, or shame.

Through IFS, your “Self” can help these parts release past pain and beliefs, so they are freer to reclaim qualities, such as freedom, joy, and play.

Ready to meet your parts? I offer IFS therapy in Lee's Summit and online for residents across Missouri and Kansas.

IFS Specialty: Healing the Parts that Please, Perfect, and Protect

Marci is an LGBTQA+-affirming, trauma-informed, and Level One, IFS-trained therapist. She uses parts work to help adults navigate:

  • "Protective" Patterns: Healing the parts of you that rely on people-pleasing, perfectionism, and an active inner critic to feel safe.

  • Relationship & Emotional Healing: Recovering from emotional abuse, toxic relationships, and the resentment that builds when you feel stuck or unheard.

  • Emotional Regulation for Empaths: Supporting empaths and creatives in managing anxiety, burnout, and overwhelm by reconnecting with their own energy and ‘Self.’

  • Identity & Self-Worth: Reclaiming the identity you’ve lost in your relationships, and re-establishing self-care, rest, and innate self-worth.

  • Life Transitions & Growth: Creating the life you desire and navigating communication and boundary setting with more confidence.

Benefits of IFS Therapy

  • Simple purple abstract flower drawing on a black background.

    Remembering your wholeness

Move from internal conflict to collaboration. Instead of fighting your "difficult" feelings, you’ll learn to compassionately embrace the parts of yourself you’ve shamed or ignored. As your inner critic and anxious parts feel understood, they can finally relax, allowing you to feel truly at home in your own skin.

    Reclaiming Your identity

Reconnect with who you are beneath the internal masks of perfectionism and the external projections from others. By accessing your core "Self," you uncover a source of calm and clarity that isn’t dependent on anyone else’s approval. You’ll move from "performing" for others to living from a place of innate self-worth.

    Repairing and deepening connections

Healing happens from the inside out. By repairing your relationship with yourself first, you will shift how you show up with others. As you develop your relationship with your parts from a Self-led place within, your confidence and courage grow, moving you away from toxic dynamics toward mutually supportive relationships.

FAQs about Therapy:

  • As of October 1, 2023, I am in-network with Aetna & UnitedHealthcare insurance plans. I bill insurance through a company called Alma.

For all other insurance plans that I’m out-of-network for, you would pay me directly for the cost of the session. If you’d like to request reimbursement from your insurance company, I can provide a specialized invoice to you monthly.

Note: If you are deciding between self-pay or using insurance, here are a few things to consider. Insurance companies can audit and request your therapist’s progress notes. And insurance companies only pay for what they view as helping decrease mental health symptoms, so a diagnosis is required on your file.

  • I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Missouri since 2001.

I have been a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Kansas since 2025.

  • I completed my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and have been a licensed therapist since 2001.

While many modalities have informed my 25+ years of practice, I am a Level One IFS-Trained therapist. My specialized training also includes advanced coursework in Somatic Parts Work, which enables me to help clients connect with their internal system through both mind, heart, and body.

  • "Parts work" can be deep, and sometimes a standard 50-minute hour feels like it's ending just as we are getting to the heart of the matter. 90-minute sessions allow us to stay with a 'part' without the pressure of the clock, often leading to more significant breakthroughs and a more spacious healing experience.

  • I offer in-person sessions at my office in Lee’s Summit, MO, as well as secure online therapy for residents throughout Missouri and Kansas. Both formats are equally effective for IFS and parts work.

  • I DON’T provide counseling for children, teens, or couples. I DO provide individual therapy for adults in Missouri, ages 18 and up. (Due to licensing regulations, I am not able to provide psychotherapy services to those outside of my state or country.)

  • I only schedule appointments with new clients after we’ve had an initial conversation to determine if we are a good fit. The best way to reach me is to schedule a complimentary, 15-minute discovery call with me. Click here to see my availability for introductory calls.
